We’ve discussed beneficiaries in many of the sections here. Most people think primarily of family members, but did you know a beneficiary can be not only a person, but an organization? For example, a trust could leave a lump sum or the growth of the trust funds to a certain charity. A common use of this is to set up funding to go to a church (that the grantor was part of), so that just as they gave while they were living, this legacy can continue. Aside from the aspect of knowing that your legacy of giving will continue, it can also be a tremendous way to take advantage of tax savings, helping your family to keep more and supporting the causes you want to, at the same time.
